Asbestos Building SurveysThere are 3 types of survey for asbestos that can be carried out, depending on the requirement.
Type 1: Basic level location assessment which will give a general indication if there are any asbestos containing materials within the property. No samples are taken so therefore all materials are presumed to contain asbestos.
Type 2: A visual inspection is carried out on all reasonably accessible areas. Small samples are taken in a non- destructive manner of all materials that are likely to contain asbestos. The samples are then sent to a UKAS accredited scientific laboratory for testing. A full and comprehensive report is compiled giving details of the asbestos content of the samples along with our recommendations on how to reduce the risk of being exposed to asbestos.
Type 3: Full access is gained to all areas including intrusion into sealed voids, under floors, in ducts and enclosed spaces and all other more inaccessible areas. This type of survey is recommended before major refurbishment or the demolition of the building.
Formal Asbestos Surveys are required to be carried out in accordance the guidelines for Surveying, Sampling and Assessment of Asbestos Containing Material in The Health and Safety Executive's Methods of the Determination of Hazardous Substances (MDHS) guidance document No. 100 (MDHS 100).
